Archbishop George Walter Sands

Since 2005, The Most Rev. George W. Sands has served as the Archbishop and Primate Metropolitan of the African Orthodox Church. He is noted for his visionary thinking, organizational skills and leadership abilities.

He was educated in the Dade County Public Schools where he graduated from Miami Senior High School in 1970. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Michigan State University majoring in Secondary Education – Social Science, minoring General Science. He went on earned a Master of Science Degree in Management from St. Thomas University, and an Educational Specialist Degree Barry University. His theology studies include The Endich Seminary of the African Orthodox Church and Trinity College..

Archbishop Sands is also an assistant principal at George T. Baker Aviation School. He is also the past president of the Episcopal AIDS Ministry of South Florida. All who know him are enamored by his beautiful tenor voice.
